The former Illinois sheriff’s deputy who was convicted in the 2024 murder of Sonya Massey was sentenced to the maximum term of 20 years in prison. In court Sean Grayson gave a statement following his defense, for the first time admitting wrongdoing against Massey, a 36-year-old Black mother of two who had called 911 about a possible prowler outside her Springfield home.
