This year’s biggest media deal is a step closer to reality. Regulators from the Federal Communications Commission are apparently in the midst of wrapping up their review of AT&T’s (T) $49 billion potential purchase of DirecTV (DTV). The companies have already gotten clearance from the Department of Justice. Microsoft’s (MSFT) quarter was dinged by a big writedown for Nokia. The software company reported adjusted earnings per share of 62 cents against revenue of $22 billion. Microsoft’s commercial revenue grew 88%, driven by Office 365. Yahoo (YHOO) is spending more on mobile and video advertising. The company reported Second Quarter revenue rose 15% to $1.24 billion, its highest quarterly revenue increase in almost 9 years.
