Facebook is forking over $19 billion to acquire messaging service WhatsApp. The deal is the latest sign of a growing interest in mobile applications by companies. Just last week, home shopping group Rakuten announced its $900 million takeover of instant messaging service Viber. Social media expert Victor Gaxiola says these types of deals make perfect sense, given the prevalent usage of mobile devices and mobile applications today. In fact, Gaxiola says it’s likely that there could be many similar deals yet to come.
