In an exclusive interview with The Deal, the European Commission Vice-President for Energy Union Maros Sefcovic speaks out against Russia’s plans to extend its gas link to Germany through the ‘politically sensitive’ Nordstream II pipeline project, which he ‘cannot imagine’ the EU funding. He also discusses the upcoming renewable energy package and electricity market design proposals planned for next year, whether diesel has a role in the EU’s future energy mix and pledges EU support to investors keen but maybe hesitant about investing in energy projects here. ‘If you have a doubt, and if the project is considered as priority or important for the European economy, we are ready to go in that project with you,’ he said.
