The European Commission sends a statement of objections to Google accusing the Mountain View, Calif.-based Internet giant of abusing its search engine dominance, and launches an in-depth probe into Google’s contracts with smart phone and tablet makers to see whether they’re bound to use Google applications and services and barred from using competing versions of Android. The latest moves ups the ante in an investigation that’s been going on for more than four years, with EU Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager also promising to look into other areas including services for travel, mapping and flights.
