American companies can improve productivity by decentralizing decision making just like the Joint Special Operations Task Force successfully did in Iraq, said General Stanley McChrystal, author of ‘Team of Teams.’ McChrystal, who formerly commanded all U.S. forces in Afghanistan, added that by becoming a ‘team of teams’ his organization in Iraq became faster and more flexible and was able to beat back Al Qaeda. He said his Task Force in Iraq could not solely rely on Big Data and technological superiority to defeat the fast-moving enemy. In order to counter their stealth, McChrystal gave his team the freedom to experiment and was ultimately rewarded when it took out Al Qaeda leader Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi.
