Closed-end fund investor Dan Plettner, whose five separate portfolios on Covestor.com have handily beaten their benchmarks, reveals his strategies for unlocking value. Plettner says his research includes going through SEC filings and understanding catalysts that are going to drive changes to the relative market valuation, so that he can ultimately buy something at a discount to its net asset value and then be able to exit positions closer to their net asset value. He reveals some of the benefits and risks to this investing approach, and also details some of his top current ideas for closed-end fund investors on the equity asset allocation side as well as within fixed income.
