CBS News anchor Tony Dokoupil barred from broadcasting at Taiwan hotel, latest snag for Asia trip

“CBS Evening News” anchor Tony Dokoupil said he was barred from broadcasting from his Taiwan hotel after the owner frowned on his coverage — one of several snags the journo encountered during his jaunt to cover President Trump’s China summit.

After a segment featuring people in Taiwan expressing fear of talking openly about China, Dokoupil told viewers, “even at our hotel … after seeing our broadcast last night, the manager told us we can’t cover anything political on their property.”

He instead broadcast from Taipei’s Liberty Square for his second and final program in Taiwan’s capital.

It was the latest in a series of issues for Dokoupil, whose cameraman fainted during Wednesday’s broadcast.

Veteran cameraman Randy Schmidt collapsed after travelling at the last minute from Tokyo to help the show, sources told The Post.

The cameraman could be heard falling while Dokoupil was providing updates on the summit between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

“You will hear a lot about the rise of a powerful new China — is he okay?” the anchor asked halfway through his closing while the rest of the stunned crew stayed silent.

“We’re gonna take a quick break. We have a medical emergency here,” he added.

The “Evening News” team said the cameraman was “okay and recovering” in an update shared just minutes after the broadcast ended.

The Taiwan trip came after CBS News failed to get a China visa for its star anchor, as The Post previously reported.

CBS News’ “poor planning” left the network scrambling to get Dokoupil to China’s capital, where his rivals Tom Llamas of NBC News and David Muir of ABC News are on the ground for anchor duties, sources said.

CBS News did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the hotel’s expulsion of the show.
