Boston Celtics championship parade live updates

The Celtics celebrated the franchise’s first championship in 16 years in style — with a rolling rally parade along the streets of Boston on Friday.

Now that the parade has ended, relive all of the top moments below:

12:53 p.m.

Owner Wyc Grousebeck spoke to reporters after the parade to share his elation for the Celtics’ championship win:

“We’re fans who bought this team. We’re all in this together. Let’s go get another one.”

12:35 p.m.

As the duck boats begin to return to the TD Garden, some are being met by passing Celtics fans, including Jaylen Brown’s:

Kristaps Porzingis is seen flexing while holding what looks like a bottle of champagne:

A fan is seen tossing a basketball and marker to coach Joe Mazzulla. The coach then quickly signed the ball and passed it back:

C’s legend Paul Pierce is riding in a Duck Boat reserved for the 2008 NBA champion Celtics. Along with him are Brian Scalabrine, Eddie House and Sam Cassell. Cassell is an assistant coach on the current team.

This is the 13th Duck Boat parade in the streets of Boston. Work to prepare the duck boats can’t begin until the night before a parade because they are in use on tours until the early evening.

“First we remove the seats, we install the flooring, which we call the staging, remove the roofs or slide them forward, clean the ducks, put mesh up, and get them all ready to go,”

Tom Vigna, the company’s director of marketing and sales, said.

The duck boats were first used for the 2002 New England Patriots Super Bowl victory parade as a form of crowd control.

According to the company, then-mayor Tom Menino approached them since the vehicles would allow fans to see the Patriots players without a chance of those players being mobbed.
