Billionaire Home Depot co-founder Ken Langone has a message for those who are bearish on capitalism: start a business.
“Go work for a company – learn all the basics of that company and then go start your own business in that company’s business,” Langone said. “Look at Home Depot – we have 400,000 people gainfully employed, well paid with various programs that given them the opportunity to accumulate an estate – to accumulate an asset – that’s how it’s supposed to work and it does work – just give it a chance.”
Langone’s book is titled I Love Capitalism!
Meanwhile Langone said we need more business leaders running for political office.
“I think one of the greatest things to happen because of Trump’s presidency is for a lot of people to say, he did it — I can do it,” Langone told TheStreet. “I think Howard Schultz, Jamie Dimon – these people haven’t said they’re going to do it – Mike Bloomberg – I can go on down a list of all of these very successful business people who have demonstrated an ability to lead and who understand the importance of capitalism.”
On Monday, Starbucks (SBUX – Get Report) executive chairman Howard Schultz announced plans to step aside, fueling speculation of a political future.
