Ahead of the Super Bowl, also known as one of the biggest betting days of the year, the U.S. government is cracking down on illegal gambling. Peter Skinner, partner at Boies, Schiller & Flexner, explains how the government is going after money laundering as well as individuals who place bets on behalf of others. The Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, a bureau of the Department of the Treasury, recently posted a letter to the American Gaming Association about the issue reminding casinos that they need to take an active approach in identifying patrons who are placing bets for others. Skinner explains how casinos can do more to target those betting illegally and also reveals whether individuals using third parties to place bets this Super Bowl stand in the cross-hairs as well.
