Bentley unveiled its 2016 Bentayga SUV and said it is looking to redefine the ultra-luxury segment with the $229,100 sport utility vehicle that is set to go on sale in the United States early next year. Bentley Motors Americas CEO Michael Winkler said the Bentayga is all about ‘bespoke luxury’ and he points to the hand-stitched leather steering wheel which takes 6 hours to craft. The new SUV is uniquely Bentley with a V12 horsepower engine that goes zero to 60 in 4.0 seconds. The Bentayga will top out at 187 mph, making it the fastest SUV available, according to Winkler. ‘If a car is capable of that you have to remember that it has so much more reserves at 25 mph or 60 mph.’ Bentayga is built on the Audi Q7 platform. ‘Using components from sister companies that are basic to the design but are not necessarily needed to be unique to the Bentley brand does make development more economical.’ TheStreet’s Ruben Ramirez reports from New York.
