Beneath the headlines pertaining to Greece, Puerto Rico and Thursday’s nonfarm payrolls report, RealMoney Pro contributor Chris Versace says investors should also be aware of a big number of corporate spin-offs this week. Versace details some of the most significant spin-offs, from Gannett (GCI) spinning off its publishing assets, Energizer (ENR) separating its Edgewell Personal Care (EPC) unit and Baxter (BAX) spinning off its pharmaceuticals business Baxalta (BXLT). Versace says when it comes to spin-offs, it’s important for investors to consider why a company is spinning off a business and what kind of debt and assets will be associated with it. He stresses that it’s important for investors to research SEC filings on the businesses, since there won’t be a lot of existing analyst coverage of them.
