Nevada may be expanding tax breaks for aviation companies to attract more business to the state. Senate and Assembly members held a joint committee hearing on Senate Bill 93 and Assembly Bill 161, which would expand tax abatements to the aviation industry and bring Nevada in competition with 45 other states that offer abatements or exemptions. Representatives from the industry testified that aviation companies avoided doing repairs, expanding their business, or headquartering their planes in Nevada because adjacent states offer better incentives. Legislation giving tax breaks to aerospace companies passed unanimously in the Senate in 2013, but didn’t receive a hearing in the Assembly because time ran out in the legislative session. The bill has support from the governor and is almost guaranteed to pass this time around, according to Lieutenant Governor Mark Hutchison.
