Verizon pays a healthy dividend and is a cheap, defensive stock in a choppy market environment, said Joshua Strauss, Portfolio Manager for the Appleseed Fund. Strauss added that the telecom giant is well positioned for the increase in data usage due to the explosion in mobile device use. He is also bullish on Oaktree Capital shares, saying the bond specialists have tremendous experience to navigate a rising rate and deteriorating credit environment. Finally, Strauss said he is positive on MagicJack’s stock, saying the company has lots of cash on its balance sheet and is cheap despite the sell-off in the shares.
