Apple has discontinued its high-end Mac Pro desktop after a two-decade run.
The computer, which was aimed at serving video editors and other professional techies, was quietly removed from Apple’s website, Bloomberg reported. The device had been priced at $6,999.
The end of Mac Pro’s run was not entirely unexpected. Apple hadn’t released a new version of the computer since 2003. Instead, the tech giant, led by CEO Tim Cook, shifted focus to the smaller Mac Studio, which received an upgraded chip in a new model released last year.
Apple has no plans to offer future updates for the Mac Pro model, a company spokesperson told the Apple-focused blog 9to5Mac.
The powerful computer was not a big draw for Apple and the company has been selling through the remaining inventory in its physical stores, according to Bloomberg.
In 2019, the Mac Pro sparked a wave of memes on social media due to a hole-filled design that some users mockingly compared to a “cheese grater.”
Apple — which grew from a humble garage startup to a tech titan valued at $3.5 trillion — celebrates its 50th anniversary on Wednesday.
