A new poll shows that Americans might not be as excited about drone delivery as Amazon. According to a new Associated Press-GfK survey, Americans are skeptical the benefits of drones will outweigh the risks to privacy and safety. A majority, however, approve of using small, unmanned aircraft for dangerous jobs or in remote areas. By a 2-1 margin, those who had an opinion opposed using drones for commercial purposes. Only 21% favored commercial use of drones, compared to 43% who opposed. Another 35% were indifferent on the topic. Currently, the FAA prohibits commercial use of drones. But, the agency is expected to propose restricting drones weighing less than 55 pounds to flights under 400 feet high, forbid nighttime flights, and require drones be kept within sight of their operators. The FAA may also require drone operators to get pilot’s licenses.
