The Anheuser-Busch brand took the top spot from Modelo Especial.

There’s a new top-selling beer in town – and it’s only 95 calories!
Anheuser-Busch’s Michelob Ultra has overtaken rival Modelo Especial in U.S. retail sales by volume for the past 52 weeks, according to data from Circana.
The light, lager-style beer has also been the top seller in bars and restaurants, according to Nielsen IQ data.
Michelob Ultra’s growth has been fueled by marketing at major sporting events, including the FIFA Club World Cup and next year’s 2026 World Cup in the U.S.
Last year, it even surpassed Bud Light in draft lines at bars and restaurants.
So yes – it’s popular in stores and on tap!
The success is a bright spot for the industry. Retail beer sales fell nearly 5% in the first half of 2025 to $34.7 billion.
But Americans aren’t just losing their taste for beer. Gallup finds only 54% of U.S. adults report drinking alcohol, the lowest in nearly 90 years, and most now believe moderate drinking is bad for your health – a majority view for the first time.
So…Maybe that’s why a lower-calorie beer is now number one?
That’ll do it for your daily briefing. From the New York Stock Exchange, I’m Caroline Woods with TheStreet.
