The number of people flying on U.S. airlines this summer is expected to rise from last year. Airlines for America, the industry’s lobbying group, says much of that increase will come from a record number of international travelers. The group says about 210 million passengers will take flight on U.S. carriers between June and August, up about 1.5 percent from last year. The group says the increased number of passengers, coupled with lower fuel costs, are helping airlines bring in big profits. In the first three months of 2014, the nine publicly traded U.S. carriers earned $401 million combined. In the same period last year, the airlines posted a loss of $552 million.
