The growing list of economic concerns from Chinese growth to languishing commodity prices to political uncertainty have pushed corporate bond yields higher in recent months, even as Treasury yields remain at rock bottom levels. Scott Kimball, portfolio manager of the BMO TCH Core Plus Bond Fund (MCBIX), said this is creating fantastic buying opportunities in some pockets of the market. ‘We are finding a lot of exceptional yields in the corporate bond market at rates that seem unimaginable compared to 12 or 24 months ago,’ said Kimball. The BMO TCH Core Plus Bond Fund is up 2.1% thus far in 2016, according to fund-tracker Morningstar. The $956 million fund has returned an average of 4.4% annually over the past five years, outpacing 91% of its peers in Morningstar’s intermediate-term bond category.
