What’s your drink of choice?
The first female master distiller talked to TheStreet about the outlook for the bourbon industry going into 2019.
Marianne Eaves is the master distiller for Castle & Key. She’s the only woman in a male-dominated field.
But, Eaves says that being the only woman doesn’t matter. Instead, she said, what matters is the liquor.
“I don’t think about it a ton,” Eaves answered when asked if being the only woman in a male-dominated field had any impact on her work.
“At the end of the day, we’ll be judged by the spirits we produce,” Eaves continued.
Eaves also broke down the what it was like for Castle & Key Distillery to get off the ground.
She left Brown-Forman, the maker of Woodford Reserve and Jack Daniels, to join Castle & Key. The distillery had been launched by two partners–Will Arvin and Wes Murray–who didn’t have a background in the spirits industry.
The three built the distillery up from the grounds.
“When it comes down to it, I haven’t regretted it once. I knew it was the opportunity of a lifetime to really take my career by the horns…to create a legacy for myself,” Eaves told TheStreet.
