TheStreet’s Jim Cramer is keeping an eye on shares of Target (TGT) as the retailer prepares to release first quarter results before the open Wednesday. Cramer says he typically doesn’t like battlegrounds and he’s involved in one with Target, a core holding in his Action Alerts PLUS charitable trust portfolio. He says it’s clearly a battleground where you’ve got some of the apparel companies like Urban Outfitters (URN) reporting very bad numbers. Apparel is pretty much weak everywhere. So why does Cramer still like Target? He says because CEO Brian Cornell is putting his stamp on it and this is a long-term play. Cramer reminds investors that there’s a very big analyst meeting coming up so if the stock gets hit you’ll want to buy it, he says.
