U.S. stocks opened higher Thursday as initial jobless claims fell 12,000 in mid-June to 267,000. Consumer prices gained .4% in May, a bit less than expected. Rite Aid (RAD) slashed its outlook as its profits fell. FitBit (FIT) sells shares to the public for the first time today. The maker of wearable fitness devices priced shares at $20, above the range earlier this week. It will trade at the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol ‘FIT’. German leader Angela Merkel has delivered an unusually sharp rebuke to the Greek government, accusing it of failing to implement necessary structural reforms while insisting a last-minute deal was still possible to keep it in the eurozone. In a parliamentary speech she said that although Greece had received ‘unprecedented help from its partners’, it had failed to honor commitments it made to lenders. Airbnb has become the latest to try to add to its cash pile. Airbnb, which lets users list their homes and apartments for short-term rentals, is in talks to raise $1 billion in venture capital, according to a person close to the discussions. The financing round would value Airbnb at $24 billion, said the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity. If the financing closes, Airbnb will more than double its valuation of $10 billion from just over a year ago.
