Consumers will still spend about $6.9 billion on costumes from ghosts and goblins to Batman and Superman as well as candy and decorations, according to the National Retail Federation’s Halloween Consumer Spending Survey. Average spending will be $74.34 a person, down from $77.52 last year. Altogether, $2.5 billion will be spent on adult, children, and pet costumes, followed by $2.1 billion on candy, $1.9 billion on decorations, and $330 million on greeting cards, according to the survey. At the Abracadabra Superstore in New York, General and Marketing Manager, Naika Cadet, said she’s seen people spend a wide range of money on costumes. ‘On average a customer can get an amazing costume, makeup and accessories for like $100,’ she said. ‘But those who want to spend a little more, that have a little more flashier lifestyle, can run into the hundreds and thousands of dollars for a costume.’ The Federation’s survey indicated that most American will spend average of $27 on costumes for their families this year. But if trick-or-treaters want to take their costume to the next level, they can add makeup and magic tricks, which they also have at Abracadabra.
