Despite John Sculley leaving as Apple’s chief over twenty years ago, it’s pretty clear that he is still very well-connected to what’s happening at today’s biggest tech companies. ‘I think Amazon will be an innovator in many areas,’ said Sculley in an interview with TheStreet, admitting that he is a big fan of the tech giant’s Echo personal digital assistant. Sculley continued, ‘If you look at Google , it will continue to dominate search for many years, but YouTube is also growing and mobile video is huge,’ then adding that ‘Facebook is one of the most impressive companies to me’, applauding the social media king’s pivot toward mobile via acquisitions such as Instagram and WhatsApp. As for Twitter , Sculley says the social media company has ‘strong leadership’ but is undergoing a reinvention, one that has seen founder Jack Dorsey return as CEO to hopefully jump-start slowing user growth. ‘We’ll have to see,’ said Sculley when asked if Twitter is a viable business. Sculley served as Apple’s CEO from 1983 to 1993 and is the author of ‘Moonshot,’ which takes his experiences from working alongside Steve Jobs and as PepsiCo CEO and tries to help people develop trans-formative new businesses. Sculley is also an investor in several startup cloud companies such as pharmacy benefit manager RxAdvance, and is able to wax poetic on the industry’s biggest cloud disruptor. ‘You have to have incredible respect for what Jeff Bezos has done with Amazon Web Services, that business didn’t exist six and a half years ago — you see everyone racing to catch up with Amazon, whether it’s Microsoft , Google or IBM
