Be cautious about Brazilian shares in the coming year, but positive on Indian and Mexican stocks, said John Vail, Chief Global Strategist at Niko Asset Management. Vail added that record low unemployment in Brazil could reverse soon if the economy continues to be weak, increasing political risk. He said the new government in China is curtailing corruption while adding safety nets to reduce the need for individual savings for future spending, thus allowing for higher consumption. Finally, Vail said lower commodity prices will weigh on the Mexican economy, however, he believes Mexican stocks will overcome these headwinds due to the country’s close ties to a growing U.S. economy.
