Don’t let the government keep the Social Security benefits you rightfully deserve, said Laurence Kotlikoff, co-author of ‘Get What’s Yours.’ Kotlikoff added employees at the Social Security office are often insufficiently trained to dispense complete information about the many variables involved with the program. He said marital status – past and present – is a major factor in getting the amount you deserve and retirees need to know how to best present themselves in order to get their maximum payout. Finally, Kotlikoff said Social Security is not an investment program but an insurance policy against living too long.
