For Thursday, April 16th, we outline the notable earnings and key economic data to watch. On the earnings front, it’s another big day for financials with Goldman Sachs Group (GS), Citigroup (C), and American Express Co (AXP) all reporting quarterly results. Keep an eye on Philip Morris International (PM), toy maker Mattel Inc (MAT), and Schlumberger Ltd (SLB) as they also get set to report earnings. Schlumberger, the world’s largest oilfield services company is expected to post its biggest earnings decline in years amid the slump in oil prices. On the U.S. economic calendar, we watch for housing starts, weekly jobless claims, the Philadelphia Fed business outlook survey, and the Fed balance sheet.
