European stocks opened the week on a strong note, led by rallies in mining and telecoms companies. Miners including Anglo American, Rio Tinto and Kaz Minerals all registered gains in London after China’s central bank, the world’s top commodities consumer, cut the amount of cash banks are required to hold as reserves, injecting liquidity into the world’s second-largest economy. Telecom companies got a boost after Liberty Global’s Telenet Group Holding announced an agreement to buy Royal KPN’s Base mobile division in Belgium for €1.3 billion in cash. In Lisbon, Banco BPI fell after failing to make the cut for the next bidding round of Novo Banco.
