It’s good to beeeeee eco-friendly!
Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC) certainly thinks so. The hospital now has almost 60,000 honeybees on the rooftop as part of an ongoing commitment to enhance community wellness and environmental health and our fearless camera guy Chris Tompkins hung out with them to get some amazing footage.
Bees are so important to our food supply, says Kyle Tafuri, senior sustainability advisor at The Deirdre Imus Environmental Health Center.

We first met Tafuri when he gave us a super cool tour of the recyclable materials used to build the Women and Children’s Hospital.
Most of the food we eat is the result of pollination by bees. And worldwide, bees are dying at an alarming rate.
So HUMC is trying to change that. Even better, these bees then fly up to two miles away from their hives at the hospital and pollinate all the local plants. So they even are helping the surrounding areas.
