Ringo Starr’s screen-worn jacket from the 1965 film ‘Help!’ is on the auction block. The Beatle’s coat – and other rare classic rock items up for sale – won’t need much assistance in finding bidders, said Bobby Livingston, Executive Vice President at RR Auction. ‘Baby Boomers love rock and roll and they love rock and roll memorabilia,’ said Livingston. ‘Those with disposable income are buying fine items from the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix and the Stones so we see prices going up and up.’ Ringo’s jacket is part of the Marvels of Modern Music auction from RR Auction (www.rrauction.com) which feature nearly 500 items. Bidding for the online auction begins on July 16 and finishes on July 23 at 7PM. The hall-of-fame drummer’s black wool double-breasted suit jacket bears soft gray vertical line patterns, a keystone layout of six black buttons, and four more on the end of each cuff. A D.A. Millings & Sons label sewn inside the inner right pocket, ‘Ringo,’ and a costume notation in an unknown hand on the upper lining of the right sleeve reads, ‘Ringo No. 1.’ Adding to the jacket’s value is the fact that it makes a brief yet seminal appearance in the Fab Four’s second film. ‘It’s the first time we ever saw the Beatles in color on film so we expect the jacket to go for around $40,000 to $50,000,’ said Livingston. Also up for auction is a 1971 letter written by Jim Morrison when he was living in Paris.
