ZipRecruiter’s Sam DeMase explains why it seems like it’s taking longer and longer to land a new job.
Transcript:
SAM DEMASE: Right now job seekers should have an extended timeline in mind because it is taking a little bit longer. We’re seeing like five to six months even for super qualified candidates. It can take time to land a job in terms of the whole process. But employers really vary when it comes to how they structure their interview process. But keep in mind, as a candidate, if you’re in multiple interview processes at the same time, leverage that and let them know. It’s a great away to speed the process along. So be transparent. Like like you would want them to be with you. Let them know, hey, you’re my first choice, but I am actively interviewing with several other companies right now. Can you share an update? And that will light a fire to speed up the process? When you showcase how desirable you are as a candidate.
So the market right now is so competitive and it can feel overwhelming and stressful. But it’s important to know that it’s not just you. Other candidates are experiencing the same challenges. Our data shows that one in 3 job seekers never hear back when applying for a job. And our latest survey actually also showed that 2 in 3 job seekers haven’t received a single job offer. And that’s the highest level we’ve seen since we began tracking this in 2022. So it’s very competitive right now and the data reflects that. So you are not alone if you’re struggling.
