The stock market opening bell rings at 9:30 a.m. ET, and the closing bell rings at 4 p.m. ET, but that doesn’t mean trading has to stop. Traders can use extended-hours sessions to trade some securities, opening up additional time to react to market news, but trading in extended hours carries additional risks.
On Schwab.com, premarket trading operates from 7 a.m. to 9:25 a.m. ET, and after-hours trading runs from 4:05 p.m. to 8 p.m. ET. Additionally, clients can trade select securities 24 hours a day, 5 days a week on the thinkorswim® trading platform. Learn more:
Trading outside of normal market hours comes with unique and additional risks, such as lower liquidity and higher price volatility. Your order may only be partially executed, or not at all. Learn more about premarket, after hours, and overnight trading: Extended Hours Trading | Charles Schwab
