Apple’s ‘Spring Forward’ media event takes place on March 9, when we’re expected to get more details about the highly-anticipated Apple Watch. Colin Gillis, director of research at BGC Partners, says while it will be great to see the first new product category under Tim Cook and expectations are high for the device, the iPhone is still of utmost importance. Gillis says the iPhone has become such a gigantic profit driver that even if the watch is the fastest-selling product category in its first year, it will still equate to less than 10% of revenue. So while investors will want to pay attention to the Apple Watch, Gillis says they also need to care about the iPhone, where the majority of revenue and profits come from.
