Each year, nearly 33 million people worldwide celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day, according to a new WalletHub study.
The holiday can get quite expensive for consumers. In 2019, consumers are expected to spend about $5.6 billion on the holiday. To put that into perspective, the average person is to spend about $40 during this year’s celebrations.
This day is also one of the most popular days for people to raise a pint of Guinness. The study found that 819% more Guinness is consumed on Saint Patrick’s Day than any other day of the year. Wondering how many pints that is? 13 million to be exact.
Overall, 152.5% more beer is sold on this day. And, let’s not forget about the amount of cabbage consumed. During Saint Patrick’s week, cabbage shipments are up 70%.
People are also more likely to travel around this time. The study found that 77% of Americans are interested in traveling to Ireland to celebrate the holiday.
But if you don’t have any big travel plans, there are plenty of parades to attend for you to join in on the fun. Saint Patrick’s Day parades began in the US. with the still biggest and longest in New York City. Other big cities like Chicago, Boston, and Atlanta also hold big parades to celebrate the day.
