CEO Matt Rizai says Workiva pioneered the cloud-based business productivity platforms that allows companies to manage, collect, analyze and report their critical business data. Rizai sees further growth opportunities in the U.S. and Europe and the company is starting to look at emerging markets, but North America and Europe are the two primary areas of focus now. Workiva has 60% of the Fortune 500 in its customer base and because of that it employs a direct-sales model. In terms of competition relative to an IBM or a Cisco, Rizai says Workiva is differentiated because it is a pure-play, cloud-based platform, whereas legacy platforms do not work as well for information workers that want to work with the data as quickly as possible. Rizai sees a lot of IT spend demand from current and potential customers going into 2015. Going public expands visibility with customers and proceeds will be used for the growth strategy, marketing and sales.
