Taking a cue from America’s tweeter-in-chief Donald Trump, Tesla TSLA CEO Elon Musk has been getting diplomatic on Twitter with Puerto Rico governor Ricardo Rossello. Via his account, Musk said that said he could help reboot Puerto Rico’s power grid with SolarCity-developed solar-powered “microgrid” technology.
Tesla has previously instituted such a system on the American Samoa island of Ta’u, though Ta’u’s power needs seem minuscule compared to Puerto Rico’s. T’au has a population of under 1000 compared to Puerto Rico’s 3.4 million.
Regardless, Musk may have his moment in the sun as Rosello responded, saying that he would like to meet with Musk later today.
Much of Puerto Pico remains without power following Hurricane Maria’s devastating landfall two weeks ago. Could a new effort in Puerto Rico be the “flagship” project Musk and Rosello are looking for?
