American staples, mac-and-cheese and ketchup are coming together. Shares of Kraft (KRFT) are sharply higher on its merger with Heinz (HNZ). David Nelson is the chief strategist at Belpointe Asset Management and expects more deals in the food space and retail asking ‘how many teen retailers do we really need?’ Also with Q1 earnings season coming around the corner, investors are concerned if the strong U.S. dollar will take a bigger bite out of sales growth than it did in the last quarter. Nelson says the greenback is on the mind of corporate America ‘every conference call I’ve been on has had a CEO talking about strong dollar headwinds.’ As for the crowded dollar trade, Nelson says ‘long the dollar in the end will probably bear fruit even for the late comers.’
