Hot on the heels of IBM’s promise not to exit hardware, executive Steve Mills highlights the capabilities of the company’s mainframe technology, which he describes as an I/O (Input/Output) supercomputer. The challenge in commercial workloads, he explains, tends to be less about computer, but more about moving the data quickly, enabling mainframes to deliver better cost of ownership to users. With the mainframe celebrating its 50th birthday, Mills also looks to the future.
