The box office numbers are in and – no surprise – movie goers chose family friendly movies for Father’s Day weekend.
“How to Train Your Dragon” from Universal Pictures notched the top spot, raking in nearly 84-million dollars at the box office – better than estimates of 70 million dollars. That was the franchise’s best domestic opening weekend.
Meanwhile, Disney’s live action remake of Lilo and Stich was dethroned to number 2 after holding the number 1 spot at the box office for the previous three consecutive weekends. That brought in another 15.5 million dollars for a grand total of over $858 million globally since its release. Domestically, it’s the second-highest-grossing film of 2025.
Both movies were well-received – How to Train your Dragon has an audience score of 98% on Rotten Tomatoes, whereas Lilo & Stitch as an audience rating of 93-percent.
