The first round of the NCAA tournament was all about upsets — from 14-seed Georgia State narrowly beating 3-seed Baylor to 14-seed University of Alabama-Birmingham edging out 3-seed Iowa State. Sam Caucci, CEO of Sales Huddle Group, explains the financial boost schools like Georgia State and UAB will see from just winning the first round. Not only will schools like these realize they have value when it comes to sponsorships and licensing, but when teams go further in their tournament than expected, universities see ticket sales become a bigger revenue generator than they had in the past. Caucci says another consequence of this is the creation of jobs as the result of March Madness.
