Gannett Takes News Corp., Time Inc.’s Lead and Lines up Split 2015 looks like the year to do a split, and Gannett Inc. (GCI) is modeling its planning after News Corp. (NWSA), Time Inc. (TIME), or even eBay (EBAY). As it readies to separate print and television assets the company finds itself facing pressure from activist investor Carl Icahn, although it remains to be seen what else he can do at this point. In splitting assets, Gannett is taking on a move that both Time and News Corp. have already executed — although, with different results. One thing Gannett has going for it, is having mirrored one recent News Corp. strategy: more online selling.
