It had already been banned from the U.S. App Store, but that now applies worldwide.
Transcript:
After being banned from Apple’s U.S. App Store in 2020, Fortnite for IOS is now unavailable across the globe.
The game was removed five years ago after the game’s creator, Epic Games, tried to circumvent Apple’s 30% fee it charges developers for in-app purchases. It instead linked out to its own website in order to avoid the fees.
In April, a judge ruled that Apple was not allowed to charge developers for purchases that users made on its own website, and Epic Games asked for Fortnite to be reinstated in the U.S. Now, Apple has blocked the game from being downloaded altogether.
Epic Games called out the move on X, saying, “Apple has blocked our Fortnite submission so we cannot release to the US App Store or to the Epic Games Store for iOS in the European Union. Now, sadly, Fortnite on iOS will be offline worldwide until Apple unblocks it.”
Apple has yet to comment on the situation.
