The sale of counterfeit goods is big business. According to Business Action to Stop Counterfeiting and Piracy, global counterfeit and pirated products could be valued at up to $960 billion this year. A large part of that number comes from the sports world, where the sale of counterfeit goods is growing. The NFL has been partnering with federal investigation teams in recent years to target the sale of counterfeit products. An operation targeting the sale of fake goods surrounding NFL games between September 2012 and February 2013 netted over $17.3 million worth of products. That number jumped in the year leading up the 2015 Super Bowl, when items worth more than $19.5 million were seized in a similar operation.
