Discount retailers Dollar Tree and Wal-Mart report earnings on Thursday. Dollar Tree is expected to report same-store sales of 2.2%, which would be the strongest in the discount group, according to Jharonne Martis, Director of Consumer Research at Thomson Reuters. Martis says Wal-Mart’s earnings growth will continue to be challenged by decelerating sales and competition online. But Martis says grocery sales continue to be one bright spot for Wal-Mart. Gap will also report results, which are expected to be disappointing.
