Shares of Brinker slipped in Wednesday trading after the restaurant chain operator reported mixed quarterly results. Excluding items, Brinker earned $0.71 a share, topping analyst estimates of $0.69 a share, according to Thomson Reuters. Revenue rose by nearly 5% to $717.8 million, falling short of analyst expectations for revenue of $735.9 million. Brinker said the company’s sales increase of 4.4% was primarily due to increases in comparable restaurant sales and restaurant capacity. Its Maggiano’s chain saw quarterly sales that rose 7.5%, while Chili’s company sales climbed 4.4%. Input costs, however, rose 4.6%, as the prices of beef, cheese, avocado and other items rose.
