America is still a ‘burger nation,’ but consumers now demand a higher quality burger and dining experience, said Scott Crane, CEO of Smashburger. Crane added that Smashburger seeks to have about 35% revenue growth in 2015 and increase its store base by 75 units to 375. He said the real estate prices for new locations has increased due to the improving economy, but that has not scared away investors seeking to buy franchises. Crane said he is more focused on growing the business now than following Shake Shack into the public markets. Finally, Crane said McDonald’s will always be the giant in the burger industry and will get tougher now that it is focusing more on quality.
