Mercy me, too, Brandon! That is the song Tony Award nominated Brandon Victor Dixon borrows from a fellow cast member of Motown the Musical to sing for TheStreet. Marvin Gaye’s “Mercy Me” is one of the 50 songs from the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s performed in Motown the Musical, written by Berry Gordy, now at the Lunt-Fontanne Theater. In this short video, Dixon shares his Broadway journey with TheStreet’s Cherella Cox, in an interview that is insightful, challenging and musical. Dixon plays Gordy in the show, and has played a variety of characters, including Simba in The Lion King, in the past. He is an actor who says he is not afraid of being typecast and has enjoyed a bevy of offers, including those not traditionally played by African Americans, after receiving a Tony nomination for his role as Harpo in The Color Purple.
