A Tony Award from the original Broadway production of ‘The Sound of Music’ has fetched a lot of ‘dough’ at auction. Mary Martin’s Tony for her role as Maria von Trapp in the 1959 to 1960 staging of the beloved musical sold for close to $44,000. Boston-based RR Auction says the prize for the late actress’ starring role was auctioned off Thursday in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The identity of the buyer was not disclosed. The Tony originally was acquired from the estate of Martin’s son, actor Larry Hagman.
