I was most interested in morphing my voice in real-time, so I selected “Start Real-Time” under “Real-Time Morphing.”
Step 3: Download Altered Studio for Windows
Real-Time Morphing required me to download the Real-Time Voice Changer (available for Windows). I selected “Download Altered Studio for Windows.”
Step 4: Select Start Real-Time in the Windows App
The downloaded Windows version of Altered Studio looked the same as the browser version. After downloading Altered Studio to my computer and logging in, I selected “Start Real-Time” under “Real-Time Morphing.”
Step 5: Select Your Input and Output and Turn On
Selecting “Start Real-Time” took me to the Altered Studio, where I could morph my voice!
At the top, I made sure I had the correct input and output for my device (“Microphone” and “Headphones”). I then selected the “Turn On” button.
Step 6: Choose Your AI Model and Voice Style
I could now select the AI model to morph my voice into! There were six models to choose from, each with four speaking styles: game, whisper, shout, and natural.
Step 7: Adjust Advanced Settings
I could hit the gear icon on the top right to access more technical settings.
It was fun hearing my altered voice in real time and making it sound like different people in various styles. However, I found the output to lag quite a bit (although that could be my computer), and it would have been nice if there were more advanced settings to adjust the pitch, tone, etc.
Step 8: Select Text-to-Speech
Next, I wanted to see what Altered AI’s Text-to-Speech feature is. I went to the navigation bar on the left and selected “Text-to-Speech.”
Step 9: Choose an AI Voice
I started by selecting one of the AI voices that were available to me.
Selecting the “+” next to the models opened a window where I had many more voices to choose from!
Step 10: Adjust the Style and Tempo and Generate
After selecting my Altered AI voice, I typed some text in the empty field at the bottom. I also chose the style and adjusted the tempo. There were lots of voice styles to choose from!
I hit generate once I was happy with my script, style, and tempo! Generating my voice would cost 72 tokens of the 10,000 I was given.
Step 11: Preview Your Voice
A few seconds later, Altered AI generated my voice! I hit the play button to listen to it. It sounded realistic enough, but you could still tell it was generated with AI. To make it sound more realistic, I edited the voice with the Altered Editor!
Step 12: Export the Voice to the AI Editor
On the right, I could export the generated AI voice to the Editor, download it, or delete it. I wanted to see what the Altered AI Editor offered, so I selected the icon under “Open.”
Step 13: Transcribe the Audio
Altered immediately took me to the Studio Voice Editor! In the middle were some options to transcribe the file, insert a new recording, text-to-speech, or silence.
Selecting “Transcribe” generated a transcription of my audio in seconds! I could export the transcription by hitting the “Export” icon.
Step 14: Select the Source Audio Block
Selecting the source audio block revealed gave me options to morph my voice, turn the speech into text or vice versa, and more effects (Morph, Speech-to-Text, Translate, Text-to-Speech, Resample, AI Denoiser, AI Voice Cleaner, and Mixer).
Step 15: Apply & Edit Effects
Whenever I added an effect, it appeared in the “History” panel. I could right-click on any effect to delete it and apply and edit the effect in the “Properties” panel on the far right.
For example, I selected the block and hit “Morph Selection.” “Morph” appeared in the “History” panel.
Under “Properties,” I could hit the “+” icon to begin adding voices to start morphing. I could then style the audio to my liking and hit “Synthesize” to morph my voice according to my settings. My samples would appear in the “Properties” panel, where I could choose the one I liked most.
Overall, Altered AI offers robust real-time voice morphing, text-to-speech, and audio editing features. However, I found the real-time morphing to lag sometimes, and editing the audio is pretty technical. Despite some limitations, it’s fun and versatile, making it a solid choice for experimenting with AI voice technology!
